Gregg Brewer, Contributor

TMFReubenGBrewer |

Reuben Gregg Brewer credits his father with instilling in him a lifelong passion for investing. Although he took a detour by earning a BA in Psychology from Purchase College and an MS in Social Work from Columbia University, he quickly got back on track with his first real job working as a mutual fund analyst at financial publishing firm Value Line. He earned an MBA from Regis University while working there. Some of the key lessons from that time of his life, however, came from talking to mutual fund managers working at niche investment shops like Cohen & Steers -- a company created by two early proponents of the real estate investment trust (REIT) structure -- he has been investing in REITs ever since. Reuben Gregg's career at Value Line included stints analyzing mutual funds and stocks, hiring and training new employees, and overseeing the publisher's entire research effort as the Director of Research. Now writing for Motley Fool, Reuben Gregg is happy to have left his management responsibilities behind so he can again focus on his true passion, and share his enthusiasm with others, as he researches and writes about investing.
